Pieces of Me

Pieces of Me, a poem from, Poetry Volume One, by Rose Mary Johnson, U.S. Copyright

Scattered, I am still picking up the pieces.
My heart, solemn from the lonely spaces.
Recessed like the grit in the creases.

I find you in stranger's faces.
As I'm passing by…

There are the pieces of me.
And, the thoughts of you.
Floating around in the universe.
Like they haven't a clue.
Bumping into each other.
The loneliness it smothers.
Please help me here.

Fallen, I have stopped looking it in the eye.
Crushing, it is like the breath I take.
Broken, these wings cannot fly.
Thoughtless, I failed to contemplate the stakes.

There are the pieces of me.
And, the thoughts of you.
Floating around in the universe.
Like they haven’t a clue.
Bumping into each other.
The loneliness it smothers.
Please help me here.

If you hadn't told me you cared,
could I have been spared?
In the corner of my existence,
I see a chard as it glares.

Another piece.
You brought me here.

Why?

This love I cannot stop.

It's those pieces of me.
It's those thoughts of you.
I fear what some may see.
I fear what to do.
Cornered, I fight and flee.
Needing love like the air I breathe.
Just passing by.
I get up each day.
Please help me here.
