Can’t Go Back

Can't Go Back, Poetry, Rose Mary Johnson

Whole, a poem from, Poetry Volume One, by Rose Mary Johnson, U.S. Copyright

It all began with your smile.
I should’ve known it was all made up.
But, my heart, it lingered for a while.
And, that’s all it took.

When you began your great pretend.
I should’ve suspected and ran away.
But, instead quite a fall my heart began.
I was tricked and wanted to stay.

I can’t go back to where I was.
Can’t go back to where I was.
If I could rewind…push pause.
Rewind…push pause.
But, it’s too late to stop the fall.
My heart has lost it all.

All signs are pointing to what my heart will do.
What will it do?
I think it’s going to break.

It’s going to break.
It’s going to break.
Gonna break.

I was the giggle amongst all your friends.
The master plan was in your hands.
Set me up in front of them all.
Expose my secret heart’s longing befall.

I’m still having trouble accepting caring was a mistake.
I still want to believe that beautiful smile wasn’t fake.
I’m lost in dysfunctional love.
Risking myself for you and the secret heaven above.
